We are delighted to announce that Dr. Alexandru Hanganu has been selected as SENSUM's Researcher of the Month for March 2025.
Dr. Hanganu's groundbreaking work in the field of Parkinson's disease (PD) research, particularly his recent publication titled "Classification of Parkinson's Disease with and without Dopaminergic Deficiency Based on Non-Motor Symptoms and Structural Neuroimaging", which was conducted in collaboration with the Postdoctoral researcher Lucas Ronat, has significantly advanced our understanding of this complex neurodegenerative disorder.
Dr. Hanganu serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the Université de Montréal and is a dedicated researcher at the Centre de Recherche de l'Institut Universitaire de Gériatrie de Montréal (CRIUGM). His academic journey includes a Ph.D. from the "Nicolae Testemitsanu" State University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Moldova and a Dr. Med. from the Christian-Albrechts University in Kiel, Germany. His postdoctoral research, conducted under the mentorship of Dr. Oury Monchi and Dr. Sylvie Belleville, focused on identifying neuroimaging markers for early diagnosis of cognitive impairments in PD patients.
In his latest study, published in Neurological Sciences, Dr. Hanganu, in collaboration with the Postdoctoral researcher Lucas Ronat and his colleagues explored the classification of PD patients based on non-motor symptoms and structural neuroimaging, distinguishing between those with and without dopaminergic deficiency. This research underscores the importance of non-motor symptoms — such as sleep disturbances, mood disorders, and cognitive impairments — in the early detection and differentiation of PD subtypes. By integrating advanced neuroimaging techniques, the study offers a more nuanced understanding of PD, paving the way for personalized therapeutic approaches.
Dr. Hanganu's contributions extend beyond this publication. His research consistently emphasizes the significance of early detection and intervention in PD, aiming to improve patient outcomes and quality of life. His dedication to unraveling the complexities of PD through innovative research methodologies has established him as a leading figure in the field.
We congratulate Dr. Alexandru Hanganu on his well-deserved recognition and look forward to his continued contributions to neuroscience and neuropsychology.
