🎉 We warmly congratulate Michel Cayouette, our Researcher of the Month! 🎉

Professor in the Department of Medicine at the Université de Montréal and Director of the Cellular Neurobiology Research Unit at the IRCM, Michel Cayouette is internationally recognized for his major contributions to stem cell biology.

His research focuses on how stem cells divide and specialize to form tissues, particularly in the retina. His work on the mechanisms of differentiation, polarity, and morphogenesis opens promising avenues for regenerative medicine and the treatment of degenerative eye diseases.

His excellence and leadership have been highlighted through several recent recognitions:

  • His team received a major CIHR grant this year for the project “Light as a Morphogen: Unraveling a Novel Planar Cell Polarity Pathway in Retinal Function and Disease”, which aims to elucidate the role of light in retinal cellular organization.

  • The funding renewal in 2024 for the Vision Research Network, led by Dr. Cayouette under the FRQS Thematic Networks program, underscores its long-term impact and central role in vision research in Quebec.

  • In 2023, he was awarded the Research Recognition Award (Fundamental / Mid-Career) by the Faculty of Medicine of the UniversitĂ© de MontrĂ©al.

Dr. Cayouette is also deeply committed to training the next generation of scientists and to the dissemination of knowledge in translational research.

We are very proud to count Michel Cayouette among our community and warmly congratulate him on his remarkable achievements!
