School of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology

Ana-Inès Ansaldo is a Full Professor at the School of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology at the Université de Montréal. She holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the Université de Montréal and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at McGill University. Her expertise in cognitive neuropsychology, functional neuroimaging, and the science of communication disorders enables her to study the mechanisms of brain plasticity that support language recovery following a stroke or in the context of dementia.

Her research particularly focuses on the impact of bilingualism on aging, examining the cognitive and neurobiological profiles of elderly bilinguals. She has developed various intervention methods to improve communication for patients with aphasia and conducts studies on the effectiveness of assistive technologies in the rehabilitation of language disorders. Currently, she is leading a longitudinal study on the effects of bilingualism on cognitive resilience during aging and is developing personalized cognitive training protocols for elderly multilingual individuals.

Dr. Ansaldo has received several awards, including the Special Award from the Institute of Aging of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research in 2002, the Venezia Prize in 2007, and the Award of Excellence for an Innovative Clinical Research Experience from the Quebec Association of Rehabilitation Facilities for Physical Disabilities (AERDPQ) in 2009. More recently, she was honored with the Excellence Award from the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Currently, she directs the Language, Communication, and Aging Laboratory at the Research Center of the Montreal Geriatric Institute (CRIUGM) and also serves as the Director of Education at this institute.
