Arlette Kolta is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Montreal and has a second affiliation to the Department of Neuroscience. She is also the director of the Interdisciplinary Center for Brain and Learning (CIRCA).

Arlette Kolta has a training in neurological science and has an expertise on neuronal and glial mechanisms participating in the genesis and the control of rhythmic oral movements in chewing as well as the role of sensory afferents in the development of chronic muscular pain.

Her work on a fundamental nature uses electrophysiological, neuro-anatomical, and behavioural approaches to evaluate the role of muscular proprioceptive afferences in the development of chronic muscular pain. She is currently working on the development of a oro-facial muscular pain model. She is also interested in the circuits and in the mechanisms participating in the genesis of rhythmic patron chewing motor as well as the role of neuro-glial interactions in this process.
