Pierre Orban is an Assistant Grant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Addiction at the Université de Montréal.

His research interests focus on functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to identify biomarkers of schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. Specifically, he studies abnormalities in resting-state functional brain connectivity. Recent studies suggest that brain connectivity in schizophrenia may be linked to various pathophysiological processes, thus accounting for the diversity of clinical symptoms. Another research theme he explores involves the application of supervised machine learning techniques to connectivity measures to predict treatment prognosis or the progression of mental illness. He combines these approaches with transcranial magnetic stimulation to assess the effectiveness of this non-invasive neuromodulation tool in regulating abnormalities in functional brain connectivity.
